The Clock Is Ticking on These 4 Dividend Stocks and Deadlines Are Just Days Away

Four dividend deadlines are converging this week, and missing the cutoff by even one trading session pushes the next payment a full quarter away. Before you buy, there are a few balance sheet details on these names worth checking first.

An ex-dividend date is the first trading day on which a stock trades without the right to the upcoming payment. To collect the declared dividend, a buyer must own the shares before that date, which means the trade has to be placed no later than the prior session. Miss the deadline and the next payment is a full quarter away, since all four names below pay quarterly. Share prices also typically adjust downward by roughly the dividend amount on the ex-dividend date, so chasing a single payout rarely leaves a buyer ahead. Three of the four names here are regional banks, so treat this roster as concentrated rather than diversified.

Ex-dividend date is the cutoff to qualify. The payment date is when the cash actually lands in the brokerage account, and for this group those dates fall in early to mid-October.

Seagate Technology (STX): Buy-By Deadline Is Today

Seagate Technology (NASDAQ:STX | STX Price Prediction) is an Irish-domiciled data storage company whose mass-capacity hard drives sit at the center of the AI storage build-out. The board declared a $0.74 quarterly cash dividend with an ex-dividend date of September 24, 2026 and a payment date of October 7, 2026. That makes today, Wednesday, September 23, 2026, the last session to buy and still receive the payment. The indicated forward annual dividend is $2.96, and Alpha Vantage lists the trailing dividend yield at just 0.34%, reflecting how far the shares have run.

Fiscal 2026 non-GAAP diluted EPS came in at $15.58 on revenue of $12.195B, with free cash flow of $3.105B. Against annualized dividends of $2.96, the payout ratio on EPS is well below 20%, and the company still retired $1.40B of debt during fiscal year 2026. The low reported yield reflects a stock trading near its 52-week high of $1,144.18.

Keurig Dr Pepper (KDP): Ex-Dividend September 28

Keurig Dr Pepper (NASDAQ:KDP) is a North American beverage company whose portfolio spans single-serve coffee, Dr Pepper, Snapple, and, following the April close of JDE Peet’s, a broader global coffee footprint. On September 16, 2026, the board declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.23 per share, with an ex-dividend date of September 28, 2026 and a payment date of October 9, 2026. The last day to buy in and qualify is Friday, September 25. Alpha Vantage puts the trailing dividend yield at 3.00% on an indicated annual dividend of $0.92.

Reported Q2 2026 GAAP diluted EPS was just $0.04, weighed down by $850M items affecting comparability including $314M inventory step-up and $318M acquisition/integration costs tied to JDE Peet’s. On a non-GAAP basis, Q2 EPS was $0.57 and Q2 free cash flow was $714M, which comfortably covers the dividend at current run rates. The trade-off is leverage: pro-forma leverage stood at 4.4x at 6/30/2026, targeting ~4.1x by year-end 2026, and management has flagged a planned separation of beverage and coffee portfolios in early 2027. The payout looks funded, but the balance sheet warrants attention.

Independent Bank Corp (INDB): Ex-Dividend September 28

Independent Bank Corp (NASDAQ:INDB) is the Rockland, Massachusetts-based parent of Rockland Trust, a community bank concentrated in eastern Massachusetts. The board declared a quarterly dividend of $0.64 per share on September 17, 2026, with an ex-dividend date of September 28, 2026 and a payment date of October 9, 2026. The indicated forward annual dividend is $2.56, and the trailing yield sits at 3.03%. This payment reflects the quarterly dividend RAISED 8.5% from $0.59 to $0.64/share announced earlier in 2026.

Q2 2026 EPS came in at $1.70, a slight miss versus the $1.78 est, but annualized dividends of $2.56 still land under a 40% payout ratio. Reported NIM was 3.85%, deposits totaled $20.4B, 84.1% core, and net charge-offs were minimal at 0.02% annualized. The credit item to watch: rising criticized commercial loans (+21.7% in Q1) and CRE office concentration ($1.024B portfolio with $115.6M criticized). Nothing broken, but not nothing.

Great Southern Bancorp (GSBC): Ex-Dividend September 28

Great Southern Bancorp (NASDAQ:GSBC) is the Springfield, Missouri-based holding company for Great Southern Bank, a Midwest community lender. The board declared a quarterly dividend of $0.43 per share on September 16, 2026, with an ex-dividend date of September 28, 2026 and a payment date of October 14, 2026, the latest payment date in this group. The indicated forward annual dividend is $1.72, and the trailing yield is 2.19%.

Q2 2026 GAAP EPS was $1.43, a beat versus the $1.38 est, and adjusted EPS excluding one-time consolidation charges was $1.57. Against $1.72 in annualized dividends, single-quarter earnings alone nearly cover a full year of payouts. Capital is a fortress: CET1 of 14.0%, TCE/TA of 11.47%, non-performing assets at 0.17% of total assets, and a recently completed branch consolidation program projected to add $2.3\u20132.7M annual pre-tax income beginning Q4 2026.

Deadline Discipline

The takeaway is calendar discipline. Buying a stock just to collect a single dividend rarely works, because the share price typically resets lower by roughly the payout on the ex-dividend date and the tax bill still arrives. If any of these names already fits a longer-term thesis, the deadline for the current payment is Wednesday, September 23 for Seagate and Friday, September 25 for the three others. Miss those dates and the next payment is a full quarter out.
