Quantum computing stocks are extending their recent rebound Thursday as investors continue to digest a series of technical developments across the industry. IonQ (NYSE:IONQ | IONQ Price Prediction) stock is up 4% to $44.08, while D-Wave Quantum (NYSE:QBTS) stock is gaining 3% to $17.23 and Rigetti Computing (NASDAQ:RGTI) stock is adding 2% to $16.28.
The gains come as the broader market is relatively steady, with the Defiance Quantum ETF (NYSE ARCA:QTUM) up 0.16% to $152.70 and the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE ARCA:SPY) up 0.07% to $768.36. IonQ has drawn particular attention after recent advances in quantum error correction and the planned deployment of its Superion 256 system at NVIDIA‘s (NASDAQ:NVDA) Accelerated Quantum Research Center.
IonQ’s Breakthrough Keeps Attention High
IonQ’s recent progress in quantum error correction is helping maintain buying interest after the company demonstrated a real-time decoder running on a standard CPU. IonQ says the development addresses a major bottleneck in fault-tolerant quantum computing by allowing errors to be corrected in real time without slowing execution.
The latest development follows IonQ’s introduction of its Superion 256 platform, giving investors another technical milestone to consider. IonQ also announced that Superion 256 will be the first quantum processor deployed at NVIDIA’s Accelerated Quantum Research Center, where the companies plan to study applications including financial modeling, materials science and drug discovery.
Superion 256 Adds Another Catalyst
IonQ’s planned NVIDIA relationship could give the company additional visibility as researchers work on integrating quantum processors with advanced computing infrastructure. IonQ expects first customer deliveries of Superion 256 in 2027, making the system an important longer-term development rather than an immediate revenue driver.
For investors, the distinction between technical progress and commercial adoption remains important. IonQ’s recent announcements can strengthen the technology narrative, while sustained revenue growth and customer deployments could provide a clearer indication of how those advances translate into a commercial business.
D-Wave And Rigetti Join The Move
D-Wave is also participating in the quantum-stock rebound, with D-Wave Quantum stock up 3% today. D-Wave’s approach differs from IonQ’s trapped-ion technology, giving investors exposure to a separate path toward commercial quantum applications.
Rigetti is gaining as well, with Rigetti stock up 2% to $16.28. Rigetti’s superconducting-qubit approach provides another distinct technology model, underscoring how investors are backing several competing architectures as the industry works toward more capable quantum systems.
Quantum Stocks Face Higher Expectations
The recent rebound has brought renewed attention to the broader quantum-computing group, although the sector remains highly sensitive to technical milestones and expectations for commercialization. Defiance Quantum ETF’s relatively small gain compared with the larger moves in IonQ, D-Wave Quantum and Rigetti shows that today’s buying is concentrated more heavily in individual names.
IonQ’s latest breakthroughs could keep attention focused on whether improvements in error correction and quantum-system performance can translate into useful commercial applications. Investors should watch for signs of customer adoption, deployments and recurring revenue across IonQ, D-Wave Quantum and Rigetti, while keeping position sizes modest given the industry’s ongoing technological and commercialization risks.
