Tower Semiconductor’s $1.2B Profit Roadmap Faces Its Biggest Test Yet in Q3 Earnings
Tower Semiconductor's silicon photonics business exploded from a $180 million run rate to $680 million in a single year, and management is betting $1.2 billion in 2028 profits on keeping that pace. Q3 earnings will show whether the foundation under…
Tower Semiconductor (NASDAQ:TSEM | TSEM Price Prediction) reports third-quarter results before the market opens on November 2. Shares are down 21.25% over the past month. The report should reveal whether the silicon photonics expansion behind the company’s 2028 profit target is on schedule.
Record Margins Meet a Sharp Pullback
Last quarter, Tower posted record revenue of $460.08 million, up 23.7% year over year and ahead of the $454.68 million consensus. Adjusted EPS of $0.88 beat estimates by 16.09%, extending a five-quarter beat run. Gross, operating and net margins hit records of 30%, 20% and 20%.
Management then raised its 2028 model to $3.6 billion in revenue and $1.2 billion in net profit, up from $2.8 billion and $750 million. CEO Russell Ellwanger called those targets “fully spoken for by our customers.” Silicon photonics (SiPho) reached a $680 million annual run rate, versus $180 million a year earlier.
The stock has cooled off since. Shares sit near $181.50, down 9.39% in a week but still up 54.57% year to date.
Q3 Consensus Calls for Steep Growth
| Metric | Consensus | Prior-Year Actual | Implied YoY Growth |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q3 Normalized EPS | $1.0663 | $0.55 | 93.9% |
| Q3 Revenue | $522.06 million | $395.67 million | 31.9% |

| FY2026 Revenue | $1.975 billion | $1.566 billion | 26.1% |
SiPho Run Rate and Capacity Timing Take Center Stage
Management guided Q3 revenue to a $520 million midpoint, an annualized run rate above $2 billion. Analysts raised the EPS estimate from $0.892 90 days ago to $1.0663, raising the bar.
SiPho is the first thing to watch. Tower plans to cross a $1 billion SiPho run rate in Q4 2026, making Q3 the last checkpoint. Backing that plan are $1.3 billion of signed 2027 SiPho revenue and $290 million in customer prepayments.
Capacity timing comes next. About 50% of the $920 million SiPho and SiGe capex program was paid through Q2, with the full wafer-start expansion due in Q4 2026. Any delay in tool qualification moves the profit curve out.
Also look for updates on the Japan expansion at the Arai facility, where full production readiness targets Q4 2027, and on the SiGe capacity deal with Semtech (NASDAQ:SMTC). On margins, CFO Oren Shirazi called selling price “the single most impactful factor on margin.” Pillar Two also raised Tower’s Israeli tax rate from 7.5% to 15%, so I want clarity on that hit.
A Premium Valuation Needs Proof of Execution
At roughly 47x 2026 consensus EPS, Tower leaves little room for shortfall. Revenue depends on a small group of hyperscaler programs, and the expansion is self-funded while capex runs ahead of operating cash flow. A Q3 showing SiPho on pace for $1 billion keeps the 2028 plan credible. Weak Q4 guidance would make the stock’s recent decline the bigger story.
