A 0.59 put/call ratio into tonight's report says traders are leaning call-heavy, with 12,075 calls stacked at the 255 strike against 3,328 puts, and 136.1% ATM implied volatility on Friday-expiry contracts shows how wide the expected swing is. Read directly, that is optimism ahead of the AWS numbers. Read the other way, lopsided call positioning leaves little cushion if the quarter disappoints.

Polymarket: 33% Odds Amazon Beats Earnings Tonight

Will Amazon (AMZN) beat quarterly earnings?
33%Yes
Polymarket · $7k traded · resolves Thu, Oct 29

Traders on Polymarket are pricing less than a one-in-three chance that Amazon beats on GAAP EPS tonight, a sharply skeptical read for a company sitting on a $2.6 trillion market cap. Volume is thin, so treat it as a sentiment gauge, but the crowd clearly expects the AI spending load to show up in the bottom line.

A 3.70% slide to $245.19 takes roughly $100 billion off a $2.6 trillion market cap, and Q3 results land tonight after the bell. Rare size for a mega-cap this liquid, so keep an eye on the stock into the report.

Thu, Oct 29 Earnings call · after close

Analysts have pressed management on the AWS capacity and CapEx cycle on all four of the last four calls, and it is the thread most likely to set tonight's reaction after the close. Bedrock and model partnerships have been just as persistent, so the answer on whether capacity is arriving fast enough to keep AWS growth climbing will matter more than the headline numbers.

Amazon's $53 Billion AI Spending Spree Faces a Massive Test Tonight

Amazon reports Q3 earnings tonight, and investors will be watching whether its massive AI investments are finally translating into stronger growth.

AWS grew 36.7% last quarter, and another acceleration would mark six consecutive quarters of improving growth. That’s especially important as Amazon’s cash capital expenditures reached $53.1 billion in Q2, while trailing free cash flow fell to negative $7.6 billion.

Management guided for $197 billion to $202 billion in revenue, representing 9% to 12% growth, with Prime Day shifting into Q2.

With Amazon valued at approximately $2.66 trillion, tonight’s results could determine whether investors continue rewarding its aggressive AI spending or start questioning when those investments will generate meaningful free cash flow.

This article is updated throughout the trading day. Check back for more.

The story so far

Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN | AMZN Price Prediction) will be reporting third-quarter results soon after the market closes today, October 29. Shares are down 6.01% over the past week, and AI spending is coming under fire heading into tonight’s release.

AWS Momentum Meets a Cash Flow Bill

Amazon’s Q2 revenue reached $200.6 billion, up 20%, while operating income rose 43% to $27.5 billion. AWS revenue of $42.2 billion marked its fastest growth in 18 quarters, with a $496 billion backlog. GAAP EPS of $5.75 included a $53.4B non-operating gain linked largely to Anthropic.

Shares gained 4.58% the day following Q2 earnings, then slid 6.13% over 30 days. The stock is up 6.84% year to date but down 3.14% in today’s session. Management raised its 2026 cash capex plan in July, citing higher memory costs.

Amazon’s Consensus Estimates Reflect a Prime Day Shift

Metric Q3 2026 Estimate YoY Change FY 2026 Estimate FY 2027 Estimate
Revenue $202.2B +12.2% $828.7B $950.0B
EPS (Normalized) $1.9579 +0.4% $12.9069 $10.5588

Revenue consensus lands at the top of guidance. Flat EPS growth shows a tough comparison, since Q3 2025 included $9.5 billion in pre-tax Anthropic gains. The FY 2027 EPS estimate trails FY 2026 because this year’s figure carries those one-time investment gains.

What to Watch Tonight: AWS Capacity, Custom Chips and Ads

Here are some of the items I’m watching in tonight’s earnings report:

  1. AWS growth and margins. CEO Andy Jassy has said that even record spending leaves AWS short of capacity in 2026, adding, “I think we’re still in the relative early stages of how much demand there’s going to be for AI.” The key question is whether the 39% operating margin holds, since the CFO noted margins vary with AI mix.
  2. Custom silicon. AI and chips revenue run rates each exceeded $25 billion, and Anthropic and OpenAI made multi-gigawatt Trainium commitments. Analysts will be listening for any update on selling Trainium outside AWS.
  3. Capex and free cash flow. Investors are going to focus on whether the 2026 capex plan moves again and how management frames 2027 spending.
  4. Advertising and retail. Ads revenue rose 26% to $19.8 billion. I’m also going to be watching the 7.9% North America margin against fuel and line-haul costs.
