GE Vernova Rallies 7% as Bernstein Calls Election-Day Data Center Fears Overblown; Eaton Climbs 6%, Vertiv Gains 5%
Bernstein just told Wall Street that fears about political risk to data center construction are overblown, and power infrastructure stocks surged. But with election results still coming in, the real test for GE Vernova, Eaton, and Vertiv starts now.
Power and data center infrastructure stocks are rallying on November 3, Election Day, after a Wall Street research call argued that political risk to U.S. data center construction is smaller than the market fears. GE Vernova (NYSE:GEV | GEV Price Prediction) is leading the group. Shares are at $920 in afternoon trading, up 7%. The prior close was $862.25.
That gain adds to a strong year, with GE Vernova stock up 41% year to date (YTD). The move tracks a broad lift across power equipment names after Bernstein listed GE Vernova among its preferred stocks tied to the data center expansion. Quanta Services (NYSE:PWR) is also trading higher after landing on the same Bernstein list.
Bernstein Sees Data Center Projects Moving Ahead
Bernstein’s note, published on November 3, counts 244 gigawatts of the U.S. data center pipeline, or 56% of a 433-gigawatt total, as exposed to political risk. Even so, the firm expects those projects to proceed, with developers paying a bigger share of power and grid-upgrade costs. In Bernstein’s view, that extra expense is relatively insignificant.
Among the stocks the firm favors, Vertiv (NYSE:VRT) kept its Outperform rating and $376 price target from Bernstein. Other picks named in the note include Eaton (NYSE:ETN), alongside GE Vernova and Quanta Services.
The call lands on a company already reporting heavy demand. GE Vernova’s Q3 2026 orders reached $29.3 billion, up 96% organically in results released October 28. CEO Scott Strazik said on the earnings call, “We are still in the early stages of this electricity investment super cycle.”
That quarter also brought GE Vernova’s planned $9 billion purchase of grid-equipment maker Trench Group, which the company expects to close in late 2027. Trench carries an estimated $1.4 billion in 2026 revenue and $5 billion in combined backlog and framework agreements as of September.
Eaton and Vertiv Follow GE Vernova Higher
Eaton stock is at $386.42, up 6%. It reported record Q3 2026 sales of $8.9 billion on November 3, up 28%. The result gives Eaton an earnings lift on top of the sector call.
Meanwhile, Vertiv stock trades at $235.20, up 5%. The smaller gain leaves Vertiv behind both GE Vernova and Eaton, even though Vertiv was the name where Bernstein restated its rating and target. Quanta Services, which reported a record backlog at the end of September, is moving in the same direction as the group.
How GE Vernova’s Business Differs From Eaton and Vertiv
GE Vernova makes large equipment that generates and moves electricity. Its products include heavy-duty and aeroderivative gas turbines, nuclear technology, wind turbines and high-voltage direct current grid systems. The company’s customers are mostly utilities and power developers. Data center operators are a growing share of gas turbine demand (we rounded up seven companies providing this AI data center expansion, from power to cooling, in a free report you can grab here).
Eaton sits further down the power chain, selling power distribution, circuit protection and power quality equipment to data centers, utilities and industrial customers, and Vertiv works inside the data center itself, providing power management, thermal management and cooling systems, along with maintenance and spare-parts services. Taken together, GE Vernova rides utility and generation spending, while Eaton and Vertiv track construction of the facilities that use the power.
Midterm Results Set the Next Test for GE Vernova
Bernstein expects these stocks to fall at first if candidates who favor tighter data center limits do well in the elections held on November 3. That early reaction could test how much confidence shareholders place in the firm’s view that projects proceed.
For GE Vernova, the question is whether its backlog tops $200 billion in Q4 2026, as the company expects. Bulls can point to GE Vernova’s October 28 guidance raise, which lifted its 2026 free cash flow outlook to $16 billion to $17 billion. The bears focus on wind segment losses guided at $400 million to $500 million and electrification orders that fell 9% organically in Q3. Strong results haven’t always lifted the stock, as CNBC reported GE Vernova shares slipped after the October 28 beat-and-raise.
Execution risk around the Trench deal and manufacturing capacity remains part of the GE Vernova story. Cautious investors may want to see how the midterm vote count resolves before reviewing GEV stock.
