This Little-Known Semiconductor Stock Has a Big AI Connection
While most investors chase the flashiest AI names, one under-the-radar semiconductor company quietly controls a bottleneck that every AI server depends on, and its stock just hit a price that caught our model's attention.
Most AI investors buy GPUs. Rambus (NASDAQ:RMBS | RMBS Price Prediction) supplies the memory interface chips that keep AI servers fed with data, and the stock trades at $85.54. The 24/7 Wall St. price target for Rambus is $128.10. That means 49.75% upside over the next 12 months, and our model has high confidence.

| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Price | $85.54 |
| Price Target from 24/7 Wall St. | $128.10 |
| Upside/Downside | 49.75% |
| Model Rating | BUY |
| Confidence Level | 90% |
Rambus leads the market for DDR5 registered clock drivers (RCDs), the chips that sit on every server memory module.
AI inference and agentic workloads are driving CPU-to-GPU ratios higher, which means more memory channels and more modules per server. The stock has sold off while earnings kept accelerating. That gap explains the size of our upside.
Record Quarter Meets a Falling Stock Price
Shares fell 19.88% over the past month and are down 6.91% year to date. They were essentially flat over the past week (-0.13%). The stock sits 51% below its 52-week high of $174.10 and just 10% above its $77.89 low.
Third-quarter revenue of $218.29 million rose 22.3% and exceeded the $213.02 million consensus. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.84 beat the $0.79 estimate, and product revenue hit a record $114.31 million. Management guided fourth-quarter revenue to $227 million to $233 million and bought back $135.4 million of stock during the quarter.
Why Bulls See $175 Within Reach
The CEO, Luc Seraphin, said on the earnings call: “When we look into 2027, I would say that we see demand strengthening.” Server platforms are moving from 8 memory channels to 12 to 16, and fourth-quarter product revenue is guided up 34% year over year at the middle.
Seraphin sizes the MRDIMM opportunity at $600 million, and Rambus also secured new Tier 1 design wins for next-generation HBM. Analysts rate the stock 6 Buys and 2 Holds. Our bull case reaches $175.66.
Royalties and Inventory Are Risks Worth Watching
Royalty guidance of $68 million to $74 million trails the third quarter’s $76.96 million. Inventory rose to $74.8 million from $44.1 million, and product gross margin is stuck at 60% to 63% as input costs rise.
Management is building inventory on purpose for supply security, since customers are ordering backlog earlier. Our bear case still lands at $110.70.
Rambus Trades Between a Memory Giant and an AI Darling
Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU) makes the DRAM modules that Rambus chips sit on. The stock trades at just 5x forward earnings after revenue rose 379.27%. That low multiple shows investors pricing in peak-cycle earnings. Rambus sells into a growing module count and is less linked to memory prices.
Marvell Technology (NASDAQ:MRVL) is a fellow data center silicon supplier, with Data Center accounting for 79% of revenue. It commands 26x forward earnings.
| Company | Forward P/E | Latest Quarterly Revenue Growth |
|---|---|---|
| Rambus | 24x | 22.3% |
| Micron | 5x | 379.27% |
| Marvell | 26x | 36.55% |
Rambus trades just below Marvell, and its 47% non-GAAP operating margin beats Marvell’s 36.6%. Against that peer group, our target looks reasonable.
Our Verdict: Accelerating Growth at a Discounted Multiple
Our 24/7 Wall St. price target of $128.10 has a buy rating at 90% confidence. What tips the scale is accelerating product revenue at a multiple below Marvell’s.
The bull case strengthens if new-generation RCDs keep ramping through 2027. The bear case gains weight if royalties keep shrinking and inventory piles up without matching revenue. On our model, the potential reward outweighs the identified risks.
If current growth trends and market conditions hold, here is where our model projects Rambus could trade over the next several years.
| Year | Price Target from 24/7 Wall St. |
|---|---|
| 2026 | $90.69 |
| 2027 | $127.34 |
| 2028 | $166.49 |
| 2029 | $209.59 |
| 2030 | $234.03 |
Rambus would need to keep executing on its DDR5 and HBM roadmap for these projections to hold. A sharp downturn in the DRAM cycle or a reduction in AI capex could driving results well outside this range.
