Bitcoin vs Nvidia: $10,000 Invested 5 Years Ago, Which Is Worth More Now?
Five years ago, you had $10,000 to invest and two hot options: a volatile cryptocurrency riding a wave of hype, or a chipmaker few people outside gaming circles took seriously. The gap between where those two bets land today will…

A $10,000 investment in NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA | NVDA Price Prediction) made five years ago, on November 3, 2021, has grown to approximately $76,300 by November 2, 2026. In comparison, the same amount invested in Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) has only increased to about $12,200. This dramatic difference highlights why the Bitcoin vs. Nvidia competition isn’t even close, despite both facing some tough times recently.
Bitcoin is trading at $77,609, up 0.4% in the last 24 hours but down 10.4% over the past 30 days. The cryptocurrency reached a high of just over $86,000 on October 4, but it closed at $76,709 on November 2, marking its lowest close in a month. This puts Bitcoin down about 38.4% from its all-time high of $126,080.
NVIDIA hasn’t been immune to market pressures either. The company’s stock is currently at $208, up 3.1% on the day, though it has dropped 13.6% over the month leading up to November 2. So, what accounts for such a massive difference between these two investments?
Five Years Later, NVIDIA’s $10,000 Grew to About $76,300

To understand Nvidia’s incredible growth, we can look back at its stock price on November 3, 2021, which was $26.48—adjusted for splits. By the close on November 2, 2026, that same $10,000 investment stands at about $76,301, an impressive 663% gain, or about 50.1% per year.
In contrast, the $10,000 invested in Bitcoin when it was priced at $63,025 grew to about $12,171 by the same date, a modest 21.7% gain, or roughly 4% annually.
| Investment Period | Bitcoin | Nvidia |
|---|---|---|
| 5 Years | $12,171 (+21.7%) | $76,301 (+663%) |
| 3 Years | $22,091 (+120.9%) | $45,031 (+350.3%) |
| 1 Year | $7,206 (-27.9%) | $9,790 (-2.1%) |
In every time frame examined, Nvidia has outperformed Bitcoin. Over a three-year period, Bitcoin posted strong annual growth of about 30.2%, but Nvidia still outperformed at 65.1% per year. Over the last year, Bitcoin holders lost far more value than those who invested in Nvidia.
Both Crashed in 2022, but Only NVIDIA Had Earnings to Climb Back On

Both Bitcoin and Nvidia fell sharply early in the five-year timeframe. Bitcoin fell dramatically from peak to trough by 76.6%, reaching its lowest point on November 21, 2022. Nvidia, while also affected, fell less, down 66.4% from its November 29, 2021 close to its October 14, 2022 close.
After reaching their lows, the trajectories diverged. Nvidia benefited from a strong business model and significant revenue growth. For fiscal 2026, which ended in January 2026, Nvidia reported staggering revenue of $215.9 billion, a 65.5% year-over-year increase, along with net income of $120.1 billion. The company’s most recent quarter showed even stronger performance, with revenue rising to $96.2 billion, a 105.8% increase from the previous year.
During the August 26 earnings call, CFO Colette Kress stated, “NVIDIA compute is fully utilized across every cloud we serve.” With non-GAAP earnings per share of $2.22 surpassing the expected $2.09, Nvidia has projected third-quarter revenue of $108 billion, plus or minus 2%, and expects revenue to grow around 70% in fiscal 2028.
In contrast, Bitcoin lacks a revenue structure; its price is determined solely by market demand. Despite its past peaks, Bitcoin has faced significant volatility since reaching its all-time high, which contributes to its relatively poor performance over the five-year span.
Why Bitcoin and NVIDIA Now Fall Together

Both Bitcoin and Nvidia are now influenced by investor risk sentiment and the rise of AI technology. As noted in Nvidia’s recent call, major cloud companies plan to invest nearly $800 billion in capital projects in 2026 and about $1.3 trillion in 2027, with implications beyond Nvidia.
When tech stocks face volatility, Bitcoin tends to decline as well, as seen recently following the Binance hack in late October. Over the last week, Nvidia fell 6.5%, while Bitcoin declined 3.7%.
Bitcoin vs Nvidia: Which $10,000 Is Worth More Now?
Nvidia has clearly outperformed Bitcoin over the past five years. A $10,000 investment in Nvidia has grown to around $76,300, driven by steady earnings growth, while Bitcoin’s value has reached only about $12,200.
Although Bitcoin showed a strong percentage increase over three years because of its lower starting price, its five-year performance is lackluster compared to Nvidia. Both assets still carry risks; if Nvidia’s future earnings reports fall short of expectations, it could create a downward trend for both Nvidia and Bitcoin. For Bitcoin, investors should watch the 50-day moving average near $81,925, as closing above it could signal renewed buying interest, while dropping below the 200-day average near $73,162 could signal further struggles.
