Cardano vs XRP: Which Wins by 2027?

Both coins are bleeding, but one $1,000 bet could nearly triple while the other barely moves. A single parity price decides the winner, and one coin has a much steeper climb to reach it than the other.

Cardano (CRYPTO:ADA) is trading at $0.1881, down 26.4% over the past month, with its price fluctuating between $0.2554 and $0.1807. Meanwhile, XRP (CRYPTO:XRP) is priced at $1.19, having decreased by 16.3% in the same period, trading between $1.42 and $1.21.

In this comparison, the cryptocurrency with the higher percentage return by the end of 2027 comes out ahead. Essentially, it’s about which $1,000 investment grows into a larger amount. For instance, if ADA climbs to $0.50 and XRP reaches $2, then ADA’s value would grow to $2,660.20 while XRP would increase to $1,666.67. Conversely, if ADA goes up to $0.30 and XRP hits $2.50, XRP would lead with a value of $2,083.33 against ADA’s $1,596.12.

So, which scenario seems more likely, and what steps must each cryptocurrency take first?

Metric Cardano (ADA) XRP
Live Price (Nov. 6, 2026) $0.1881 $1.19
24-Hour Change +3.3% -3.7%
7-Day Change -3.6% -5.2%
1-Year Change -64.6% -46.2%
All-Time High $3.09 (Sept 2021) $3.65 (July 2025)
Below All-Time High 93.9% 67.4%
Market Cap (Rank) $7.07 billion (#18) $75.90 billion (#5)
Circulating Supply 37,583,793,088 63,516,606,953
Maximum Supply 45 billion 100 billion

Currently, a $1,000 investment could buy around 5,320.39 ADA or 833.33 XRP. ADA’s lower price per coin doesn’t affect this measure, since a coin’s value needs to double for the investment to double, regardless of the coin’s price.

Supply’s Role in Market Cap

Market capitalization is determined by multiplying the price by the circulating supply. Both Cardano and XRP still have coins to release before reaching their maximum supply. New coins entering circulation require a larger market cap and more money to flow in to maintain prices, meaning any supply growth before 2027 sets a higher bar for potential returns.

XRP’s circulating supply is lower than its total of approximately 99.99 billion coins, with much of this difference locked in Ripple’s escrow, where coins are gradually released. We looked at a related question in our comparison of Cardano and XRP as investments under $2.

Four Scenarios for 2027: Which Coin Leads?

These scenarios evaluate potential returns based on the price data from November 6, 2026. They are theoretical and do not account for factors like staking rewards, fees, or taxes.

Scenario ADA Price ADA Return $1,000 in ADA XRP Price XRP Return $1,000 in XRP Higher Return
Both Lower $0.10 -46.8% $532.04 $0.75 -37.5% $625 XRP
XRP Ahead $0.30 +59.6% $1,596.12 $2.50 +108.3% $2,083.33 XRP
ADA Ahead $0.50 +166.0% $2,660.20 $2 +66.7% $1,666.67 ADA
Equal Doubling $0.3759 +100% $2,000 $2.40 +100% $2,000 Tie

The parity price, where both coins yield the same return, is crucial for comparison. If XRP ends 2027 at $2, ADA would need to reach approximately $0.3133 to match it. If ADA exceeds that price, it finishes ahead; if it falls below that price, it trails behind. In the scenario where both investments lose money, XRP would incur the smaller loss.

Both Coins Below Key Averages

A moving average is calculated by averaging a cryptocurrency’s closing prices over a specific period, helping traders understand price trends. ADA trades below its 20-day, 50-day, and 200-day averages of $0.20, $0.23, and $0.21, respectively. XRP also trades beneath its averages of $1.29, $1.38, and $1.27. If sellers remain in control, both coins will need to break above these averages to show positive momentum.

XRP’s Stronger Performance

XRP has shown more resilience than ADA, gaining 14.5% over the past 90 days while ADA lost 5.7%. Over a three-year span, XRP is up 73.5%, whereas ADA has fallen by 46.5%. We ran longer-range numbers in our look at whether $1,000 in XRP could be worth $10,000 by 2030. This repeating pattern in ADA’s rallies is why the ADA-ahead scenario needs a real shift in buying behavior, not just a bounce.

Growing Interest in XRP

Recent data shows a 75.2% increase in Wikipedia page views for the XRP Ledger, while Cardano’s page views have dropped by 22.6%. Page views don’t translate directly into purchases, but the shift points to growing retail curiosity about XRP.

So Which Coin Will Perform Better by 2027?

If 2027 sees flat or declining trends, XRP appears to have a better chance of outperforming. In contrast, ADA could take the lead only if it rallies strongly enough to cross the parity line. Both cryptocurrencies carry inherent risks, and the scenario you believe is most plausible will determine which one comes out ahead.

For ADA, the first goal is to recover its 200-day average near $0.21, then its 50-day average near $0.23, before it could realistically reach $0.3133. XRP needs to reclaim its 200-day average of $1.27 and its 50-day average of $1.38. If both cryptocurrencies remain below their 200-day averages into 2027, XRP’s smaller loss would put it ahead by default.
