Why Is Amazon Cutting Prices Up to 75%?

Retailers have to move inventory at a good clip in order not to get stuck with a bunch of stuff they can’t sell because it has passed its sell-by date for some reason. The reason could be just too much inventory for a product that did not sell as well as expected or, conversely, a popular product that can be offered at a sale price as a loss-leader to attract more buyers and, with luck, sell them the product they want plus something else. Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) is no different. It’s just bigger than most retail operations.

The online retailer typically runs daily specials, and they are tailored for the sorts of thing a consumer might have looked at before. Electronics gear seems to offer some of the best deals. Here are a few of Saturday’s hot deals from Amazon.

A Sharkk vertical mouse (MS-SK137U) with a regular price of $49.99 is selling for $14.99. That’s a discount of 70%. Free shipping is available on orders totaling more than $49, so Amazon is hoping that you’ll spend another $35 to save the shipping cost.

A Sabrent mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt 2 to HDMI) adapter (DA-MDHA) is selling for $8.99, a discount of 55% from the regular price of $19.99. Now you’re nearly halfway to the $49 free shipping level.

The Anker PowerCore 10000 portable 10,000 mAh charger (AK-A1263011) is available for $18.99, a discount of 63% from the regular price. Just a few dollars more to that free shipping level.

The Sharkk bus-powered USB 3.0 4-port hub (SK-UH004) is selling for $9.99, a savings of 75% from the regular price of $39.99. And there you have spent enough money to get free shipping.
