Bitcoin miners owned Thursday's close, led by Marathon Digital finishing 13.5% higher, with Cipher Mining and Iren both up 7% or more. Large-cap losses ran heavier than usual, with Qualcomm off 5.66% and General Motors down 4.93%.

Marathon Digital was the clear standout at Thursday's close, finishing up 13.5% to $13.21, with Cipher Mining and Iren also higher and making bitcoin mining the most concentrated pocket of strength in the session.

SanDisk posted the second-largest gain among the day's movers, rising 10.69% to $1,787.02, while Coherent also closed higher in a top-five where every gainer cleared 7%.
