Zappos Hacked Says 24 Million Accounts May Have Been Exposed--Website Down

Zappos, an online shoe retailer owned by Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN) said its database has been hacked. Management at the company has asked 24 million customers to change their passwords.

Customer e-mail addresses, credit card addresses. shipping addresses, phone numbers, and the last four digits of their credit cars were stolen.

The firm’s CEO sent an e-mail to workers which said “We were recently the victim of a cyber attack by a criminal who gained access to parts of our internal network and systems through one of our servers in Kentucky.” A similar message was posted at the firm’s website.

Zappos has shut down phone customer service. Its site also appears to be down.
