The Overlooked AI Bet That Could Outperform NVIDIA by 2027

Memory stocks have quietly become one of the most powerful AI trades of the cycle, and no name captures it better than Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU | MU Price Prediction).

Shares are up 665.88% over the past year as HBM4 shipments scale and hyperscalers lock in multi-year supply deals. The question is whether the easy money has already been made, or whether Micron’s setup into 2027 can rival NVIDIA’s returns from here.

The 24/7 Wall St. price target for Micron is $952.78 over the next twelve months, implying 2.14% upside from the current price of $932.86.

Our recommendation is hold, with confidence at 90%. The stock sits near fair value after a historic run, and while the AI memory thesis remains intact, the risk/reward at these levels is more balanced than bulls suggest.

An infographic titled 'Micron Technology (MU) 12-Month Price Prediction' by 24/7 Wall St. displays a 'HOLD' call with a current price of $932.86 moving to a price target of $952.78, indicating a 2.14% upside, with 90% confidence. A Historic Run Into a Blowout Fiscal Q3

Micron has ripped 227.05% year to date and 26.23% in the past month alone, though shares slipped 3.51% last week off the $1,254.81 52-week high.

Fiscal Q3 revenue of $41.46 billion beat consensus by 17.6%, EPS of $25.11 topped estimates by 23.79%, and GAAP gross margin expanded to 84.6%. Management guided fiscal Q4 revenue to $50 billion and EPS to $31. CEO Sanjay Mehrotra called the results a reflection of “the strategic value of memory in the AI era.”

Bull Case: $1,500 and Beyond

Bulls have real ammunition. Wall Street’s consensus target is $1,513.41, with 9 strong-buy, 31 buy, and 5 hold ratings and zero sells. HBM4 12-high is ramping “twice as fast as HBM3E 12 high”, and Micron has already shipped over $1 billion in HBM4 revenue.

The 16 Strategic Customer Agreements lock in roughly $100 billion in minimum revenue with floor margins management says will run “well above our peak quarterly margins in any past cycle.” At a forward P/E of just 6x, the bull scenario clears $1,332.79 within twelve months.

What Could Go Wrong

Memory is cyclical, and Micron is spending like a company preparing for a peak. Fiscal Q4 capex is guided to around $10 billion, taking full-year FY26 spend to roughly $27 billion. HBM4 customer concentration is real, and management already signaled a “meaningful moderation in the rate of price increases” in fiscal Q4.

Bears would also flag the insider net selling in recent months. The heavy capex enables the SCA framework itself, and pricing moderation still leaves gross margin near 86%. Our bear case pegs downside at $697.74.

How Micron Stacks Up Against NVIDIA and Western Digital

NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) is the essential comparison because Micron’s HBM4 economics are effectively an NVIDIA derivative trade. NVIDIA posted Q2 FY27 revenue of $96.22 billion, up 105.85% YoY, and trades at a trailing P/E of roughly 44x. Micron’s 21x trailing multiple and 6x forward look strikingly cheap next to that.

Western Digital (NASDAQ:WDC) is the AI-storage counterpoint, growing on HDD tightness rather than memory. WDC’s Q4 FY26 revenue rose 43.84% to $3.75 billion with non-GAAP gross margin of 54.4%, respectable but nowhere near Micron’s 84%-plus. The peer set makes our target look conservative on multiples but reasonable on cycle risk.

Micron Price Prediction 2026-2030

My verdict is hold with 90% confidence. The 24/7 Wall St. price target of $952.78 reflects a stock that has priced in the near-term AI memory boom.

The setup would look more attractive if shares retest the low $800s or if Micron signs additional SCAs that push guaranteed revenue meaningfully above $100 billion. I’d stay on the sidelines if HBM pricing moderates faster than guided or if capex creeps past $30 billion into fiscal 2027.

Year 24/7 Wall St. Price Target
2026 $952
2027 $964
2028 $1,004
2029 $1,022
2030 $1,095

These projections assume Micron executes on its SCA framework and industry supply stays tight into 2028. Meaningful upside could come from a HBM4E ramp ahead of schedule, while a sharper-than-expected memory downcycle would compress the range materially.

The other side of this trade is the power, cooling, and networking suppliers feeding the same AI buildout, which we profiled in a free report on seven AI infrastructure names that aren’t chipmakers.
