Super Micro Has More Going for It Than Meets the Eye
Supermicro shares have sold off hard even as its order backlog hit record levels and a preliminary quarter beat guidance. A single-digit forward multiple on a company growing faster than Dell raises a question worth examining before November 3.
The 24/7 Wall St. price target for Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ:SMCI | SMCI Price Prediction) is $41.78. That means 26.79% upside from the $32.95 close our model used. Our model rates the stock a buy with high confidence. Shares traded near $32.28 Monday morning, and Supermicro reports fiscal first-quarter results on November 3.

At a forward P/E of 8, the market prices Supermicro like a commodity box builder. Record orders, a fatter margin mix and a preliminary quarter that exceeded guidance point to more value than the share price suggests.
Supermicro Sold Off Even as Its Outlook Improved
Shares fell 21.4% over the past month and 2% over the past week, though they remain up 10.28% year to date. The 52-week range runs from $19.48 to $53.01.
In fiscal Q4, revenue of $11.12 billion rose 93.2% year over year but missed the $11.56 billion consensus. Non-GAAP EPS of $1.70 exceeded the $0.96 estimate, Supermicro’s third straight EPS beat.
On October 20, management said preliminary Q1 revenue and gross margin both came in above guidance on stronger AI platform demand (we covered seven suppliers riding that same data-center expansion, from power to cooling, in a free report you can grab here). Two days later, Supermicro launched a 256 CPU, 100% liquid-cooled NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) Vera CPU rack.
Why Bulls See $46.74 or Higher
Supermicro booked more than $60 billion in new orders and entered fiscal 2027 with record backlog. Management expects fiscal 2027 revenue of $65 billion to $72 billion, up from $39.06 billion. The mix is improving too.
Enterprise and channel revenue rose 172% year over year to reach 50% of Q4 sales, and those products carry higher margins than volume GPU deals. Talking about DCBBS software and services, Chief Executive Charles Liang said, “Twenty percent of gross profit should be not far away.” If the backlog converts smoothly, our bull case reaches $46.74.
Risks That Could Pin Shares Near $33
Q4’s 17.6% non-GAAP gross margin had help: about 25% of the sequential gain came from lower tariff costs and inventory reserves. Fiscal 2026 operating cash flow was negative $6.81 billion as inventory reached $12.9 billion.
As a counterpoint, Q4 alone generated $722 million of free cash flow. Net debt also fell to $1.2 billion from $7.5 billion after a $5.6 billion equity raise, though that raise diluted shareholders.
A board review of export-control-related transactions remains open. Analysts are conservative, with 11 hold, two sell and one strong sell ratings. Our bear case is $33.10.
Supermicro Trades at a Deep Discount to Dell and HPE
Dell Technologies (NYSE:DELL) is the most direct AI server rival. Its P/E of 23 compares with Supermicro’s 10, even though Dell’s latest revenue growth of 57.75% trailed Supermicro’s pace. Dell’s 20% gross margin explains part of that premium.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE:HPE) offers a margin-rich contrast. Server revenue grew 35.3% last quarter, but HPE guides fiscal 2027 revenue growth of only 13% to 17%. Supermicro is growing faster than both at a fraction of Dell’s multiple, so the peer group makes our target look conservative.
| Company | TTM P/E | Latest Quarter Revenue Growth | Gross Margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supermicro | 10 | 93.2% | 10.8% |
| Dell | 23 | 57.75% | 20.0% |
| HPE | N/M | 32.72% | 28.8% |
Valuation Tips the Scale Toward Upside
The 24/7 Wall St. price target of $41.78 carries a buy rating with 90% confidence. Valuation decides it, because a single-digit forward multiple leaves room for upside if fiscal 2027 guidance holds.
Upside builds if Q1 results confirm the preliminary beat and margins hold above prior guidance. The outlook weakens if the board review turns up new compliance problems or cash burn returns. At today’s price, our model sees more upside than downside.
Super Micro Price Prediction 2026-2030
Here is where the 24/7 Wall St. price target model projects Supermicro could trade if current trends hold.
| Year | Price Target from 24/7 Wall St. |
|---|---|
| 2026 | $34.60 |
| 2027 | $42.72 |
| 2028 | $47.51 |
| 2029 | $57.66 |
| 2030 | $62.76 |
The forecast assumes Supermicro keeps executing on its AI rack-scale strategy. Significant upside or downside could follow from backlog conversion, margin strength and the outcome of the board review.
