Nio Climbs 6%, Tesla and Lucid Rise 5% as EV Stocks Rebound From Election Sell-Off

EV stocks are bouncing hard after a post-election beating, but Elon Musk just made a call about Giga Austin that reshapes Tesla's plans. Rising yields and Lucid's cash burn cloud the picture, so does this rally have legs?

Electric vehicle stocks are rebounding as growth names recover from the selling that followed the U.S. midterm elections. Nio (NYSE:NIO | NIO Price Prediction) stock is at $3.41, up 6%, in early trading. The bounce comes after the Chinese EV maker slid 3% in Thursday’s session to close at $3.20.

Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) stock is at $360.40, up 5%. The gain reduces a 20% year to date (YTD) decline for the electric automaker. Lucid Group (NASDAQ:LCID) stock is at $3.12, up 5%. That move still leaves Lucid stock down 70% YTD.

Shares of Tesla tumbled again on November 5 in a deepening post-election slump. Yahoo Finance tied the steep sell-off to regulatory concerns after Democrats took control of Congress. Growth stocks are recovering even though the 10-year Treasury yield rose to 4.87% after a strong employment report in October.

Tesla Trades Cybertruck Space for Cybercab Production

Tesla CEO Elon Musk posted on X on November 6 that the company “will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production.” Cox Automotive’s Kelley Blue Book estimates that 71,000 Cybertrucks have sold since the truck went on sale in 2023. Giga Austin was built with annual Cybertruck capacity of 250,000 units, leaving Tesla with plenty of floor space to reuse.

Musk’s latest decision follows the end of the Model S and Model X, which freed space for Optimus robot lines. Both moves push Tesla further into autonomy and robotics. A sector-wide rebound is lifting EV names broadly, so the Cybertruck post is one factor among several in the rally.

Nio and Lucid Carry Separate Storylines Into the Rally

Nio delivered 34,246 vehicles in October across its Nio, ONVO and FIREFLY brands. That lifted Nio’s cumulative deliveries to 1,332,139 as of October 31. XPeng (NYSE:XPEV) stock is rallying alongside Nio, keeping China’s two smart-EV makers in step.

Lucid stock is bouncing from deeply depressed levels, and a technical rebound after its steep YTD slide is one possible reading. As of June 30, Lucid had $3 billion of total liquidity, a reserve management then expected to last well into 2027. Cash burn remains the company’s central risk.

Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ:RIVN) stock is barely moving, trailing the bigger gains across the group. Yahoo Finance noted that Rivian’s R1T becomes the main EV pickup once the Cybertruck ends.

Citigroup raised its Tesla, Lucid and Nio stakes during Q3 2026, according to the bank’s quarterly holdings filing. The bank’s Tesla holding rose 10.1% to 8.69 million shares, while its Lucid stake climbed 106% to 4.25 million shares. Over the same quarter, Citigroup lifted its Nio position by 20% and cut its XPeng holding by 82.6%. Those figures reflect holdings at the end of the third quarter, so current positions may differ.

How Nio’s Model Differs From Tesla and Lucid

Nio sells premium smart EVs in China through a multi-brand lineup that runs from its namesake premium marque to the family-focused ONVO and entry-level FIREFLY. A battery-swap network sets Nio apart, letting drivers exchange a empty pack for a charged one.

Tesla runs a vertically integrated global business that also sells energy storage and is pushing into self-driving software, robotaxis and humanoid robots. Lucid is a far smaller U.S. luxury maker, backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), that’s still working toward scale. Each model carries different exposure: Nio to China’s crowded EV market, Tesla to its autonomy timeline and Lucid to its cash needs.

What Comes Next for Nio, Tesla and the EV Rebound

Tesla now faces the question of whether Cybercab production increases quickly enough to fill the Giga Austin lines the Cybertruck leaves behind. Nio’s upcoming quarterly results will show whether higher deliveries and margin gains can keep reducing the company’s losses. A third open question is whether the sector bounce holds, since a technical rebound after a sharp sell-off is one possible reading of the move.

Optimists highlight Nio’s October delivery momentum and Tesla’s push into robotaxis. Rising Treasury yields, Lucid’s cash burn and fresh regulatory concerns in Washington make up the bear case. A cautious approach may be warranted for investors while the EV rebound’s staying power remains unclear.
