AI Price Prediction: We Asked ChatGPT if Bitcoin Can Get Back Above $100,000 in 2026

Bitcoin sits roughly 20% below a price level it once treated as a floor, and whether it can claw back to that mark before 2027 depends on a few critical signals starting to flash right now.

Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) is currently valued at $83,316 as of October 21, 2026, having gained 2.1% in the last 24 hours. To exceed the $100,000 mark again, it needs an approximate 20% increase. ChatGPT estimates there’s a 40% chance of this happening before the year ends. Notably, Bitcoin is still 33.9% below its peak of $126,080 from October 6, 2025.

The $100,000 threshold matters because Bitcoin spent most of 2025 above it and closed October 2025 above it as well. However, in 2026, its highest monthly price came in January and fell short of $98,000. In June, Bitcoin dipped as low as $58,000 but has recently rebounded by 27.7% over the past 90 days.

So, can Bitcoin realistically reclaim the $100,000 level by the end of 2026?

ChatGPT views the situation with some nuance. While it sees a 40% chance of Bitcoin trading above $100,000 at some point in 2026, it believes there is only a 25% chance that it will close December above this mark, and a 60% chance that it might not reach it at all this year.

Even a brief spike above $100,000 would eliminate the 60% scenario, but only a strong December close would fulfill the 25% chance.

Reaching the $100,000 target now requires more investment than it did in previous years. Bitcoin’s market capitalization is currently around $1.67 trillion, spread across about 20.1 million BTC out of a maximum limit of 21 million. As miners continue to add new coins, hitting a $100,000 price point in late 2026 would necessitate a larger market cap than the same price did in early 2025.

Since Bitcoin is already the leading cryptocurrency, accounting for 59.6% of the entire crypto market’s value, any return to $100,000 must stem from new investments.

Three Key Factors That Could Drive Bitcoin Toward $100,000

  1. Breaking above $87,700. According to Glassnode data, this level represents the average purchase price for recent buyers, 5.3% above Bitcoin’s current price. ChatGPT suggests that a daily close above this mark, followed by stabilization, could lead Bitcoin to $90,000, then $95,000, and finally $100,000. This is because those investors would reach breakeven and stop selling as prices rise.
  2. Sustained ETF demand. On October 19, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $527 million, but inflows dropped to just $23 million the following day. ChatGPT is looking for sustained inflows over several weeks. Recent trends support that view, as Bitcoin has declined roughly 4% since the largest daily inflow in the past month on September 21, showing that a single big day isn’t enough.
  3. Stable volatility and supportive liquidity. Bitcoin’s 28-day volatility, a measure of how much its price fluctuates, is currently at 1.2%, near its lowest in 2026. Such quiet phases often precede significant movements in either direction. Additionally, the M2 money supply, which includes cash and deposits, hit $23.3 trillion in August, a year-high that often benefits assets like Bitcoin.

In its base scenario, ChatGPT anticipates consolidation followed by a partial recovery toward recent buyers’ cost basis, with $88,000 as the most likely year-end price and no swift return to previous highs.

On the downside, ChatGPT sees a 20% chance Bitcoin could fall below $70,000 before the year ends, a decrease of about 16%. This risk reduces to 10% to 15% if Bitcoin reclaims and holds above $87,700. ChatGPT keeps that risk from rising, as Bitcoin trades above its 50-day average of $81,567, and recent ETF demand signals ongoing institutional interest.

Setting a new record looks much harder, as Bitcoin would need a 51% increase to exceed $126,080. ChatGPT estimates a 25% chance of this happening by 2027, based on a 25% bull scenario, a 40% base scenario, and a 35% bear scenario. If institutional demand and market conditions improve swiftly, this figure could rise to 45%.

Can Bitcoin Reach $100,000 in 2026?

Overall, Bitcoin seems to have a fair chance of touching $100,000 in 2026, but a strong year-end close above it appears unlikely. ChatGPT’s insights align with this perspective. For Bitcoin to stay in contention for the $100,000 target, it first needs to close above $87,700 and hold that level, followed by a series of weeks with consistent ETF inflows.

Waiting carries downside risk. Should Bitcoin fail to hold above $87,700, ChatGPT predicts it could slide back to around $83,000 and possibly down to $80,000. A confirmed close above that level could keep hopes of $100,000 alive this year, while a dip below the $81,567 50-day average would make a December finish above $100,000 increasingly unlikely.
