The FTSE 100 ended the session at 14,118 while Frankfurt's DAX closed higher on the same day, leaving London and the continent on opposite sides of the line.
The divergence tracks the Bank of England's harder line on inflation, which remains above 4%. UK-exposed holdings are carrying an interest-rate burden that most of their European peers simply are not.
The CAC 40 in Paris also closed lower, down 0.25%, while the DAX's positive close points to more acute pressure in the UK than on the continent.
