London held up best in a red European close, giving back just 23 points while Paris shed 0.58%. UK blue chips are still clinging to the 10,800 line as mixed earnings and Bank of England rate talk pull in opposite directions.

The FTSE 100 slipped about 0.2% to 10,821.51, still the strongest showing among the major European benchmarks and holding above the closely watched 10,800 floor for UK blue chips.
The index spent much of the morning higher, running up roughly 0.3% before sellers took control through the afternoon and pushed it into the red late in the session.
