New Apple TV to Hit the Market? (AAPL)

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) could be preparing to launch a new version of Apple TV in addition to the rumored iPad 3 (additional coverage here). The company has sent out invitations to a March 7th event in San Francisco, so we don’t have long to wait to find out.

The 9to5Mac blog cites “reliable sources” as saying that the new iPads will be joined by a new version of Apple TV. The TV device is rumored to be based on the company’s dual-core A5 processor, which provides the horsepower needed to display 1080p high-resolution images.

The new version of Apple TV would be another set-top box, not an integrated TV set, known in the rumor mill as the iTV. That’s the subject of another whole set of rumors.
