Election-season trading is giving one politically linked stock a lift as the midterm vote approaches. Trump Media & Technology Group (NASDAQ:DJT) stock is at $5.93, up 6%, in afternoon trading. The bounce comes after a long slide, and Trump Media stock is down 55% year to date.

Rumble (NASDAQ:RUM) stock is down 3% to $5.17, moving opposite its fellow alternative-media platform. Meanwhile, Reddit (NYSE:RDDT | RDDT Price Prediction) stock is up 2% to $93.55 as it stabilizes after a hard stretch.

Midterm Positioning Puts Trump Media Back in Play

Trump Media has long traded as a political sentiment stock, and the U.S. midterm elections arrive on November 3. That timing makes election positioning the most likely mechanism behind the rally, with traders moving into a name tied closely to Donald Trump’s brand ahead of the vote.

Broader risk appetite may be adding fuel. The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEARCA:SPY) is up 0.5%. At the same time, the Invesco QQQ Trust (NASDAQ:QQQ) is up 0.4%.

Oil prices fell more than 4% while Treasury yields declined. Conditions like these often favor speculative, high-beta stocks, though Trump Media’s move is far larger than the indexes’, so any link is loose.

Truth API Scrutiny and Steep Losses Shape Trump Media’s Backdrop

Trump Media launched its Truth API, a paid business-to-business data feed, on August 1 with more than 10 customer agreements. The service gives select Wall Street clients, including Bloomberg and two high-frequency trading firms, a head start measured in milliseconds on Donald Trump’s Truth Social posts for up to $100,000 a month.

That arrangement has drawn criticism, regulatory scrutiny and a lawsuit over whether official government announcements can be posted on Truth Social while the premium feed exists. Senate Democrats have proposed legislation targeting the Truth API as well.

The fundamentals remain thin next to Trump Media’s losses. In Q2 2026, the company’s revenue rose 92.5% year over year (YoY) to $1.7 million, while its net loss reached $238.11 million. Most of that loss came from $190.4 million in non-cash unrealized losses on digital assets and equity securities, plus $25.6 million in legal expenses.

Rumble and Reddit Split on Different Stories

Over the past month, Rumble stock is down 32%, so the two alternative-media names are moving in opposite directions. The company’s Q1 2026 revenue fell 15.8% YoY to $25.46 million, and Rumble has missed both earnings and revenue estimates for four straight quarters.

Reddit’s rebound follows its worst day on record on October 30, after its Q3 2026 report showed falling search traffic. Sales at Reddit rose 53% YoY to $894.96 million in the quarter, but CEO Steve Huffman said search referral traffic was “down meaningfully in Q3.”

Huffman argued that demand for the platform is intact. “People still want Reddit. It says Google is not sending them to Reddit the way they used to,” he noted. He also warned that Reddit’s Q4 daily active users could fall by a low-double-digit percentage if the decline continues, even as the company guided Q4 revenue to $1 billion to $1.03 billion.

How Trump Media’s Business Differs From Its Peers

Trump Media is a politically branded social media and streaming company that has shifted toward a crypto-heavy treasury and a pending merger with fusion energy firm TAE Technologies. Rumble pairs a creator-focused video platform with cloud and graphics processing unit infrastructure, supported by its Tether partnership and the Northern Data acquisition.

Reddit runs a broad-audience discussion platform with a scaled, profitable advertising business, so it’s tied more to ad demand and traffic trends than to politics. That mix leaves Trump Media stock more exposed to election sentiment and digital asset prices than either peer.

What the Midterm Vote Could Mean for Trump Media

Trump Media faces a key question: whether election-driven buying holds once the results are in. Optimists cite the pending TAE Technologies merger, targeted for Q4 2026, and a new data-licensing revenue stream that didn’t exist a year ago.

The bears might see a stock that’s down significantly this year, a business still posting heavy losses and a main data product under political scrutiny. Trump Media’s upcoming earnings report could show whether the API is adding meaningful revenue. For prospective investors, it may make sense to wait until the post-election picture for Trump Media settles.
