The AI Chip Race Is Changing. This Could Matter More Than GPU Market Share

Every AI accelerator rack needs a host CPU, and Arm just started selling its own chip to feed that demand. Shares have still shed a third in a month, so who is right about what comes next?

GPU share dominates AI headlines, but every accelerator rack needs a host CPU, and agentic AI increases that demand.

Arm architecture sits under the Vera CPU from NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) and the Axion, Graviton and Cobalt hyperscaler CPUs. Arm now also sells its own chip, the Arm AGI CPU, which turns architecture share into direct silicon revenue. The traits that defined the last decade’s biggest chip winner are the same ones we cataloged in a free playbook on spotting the next one early.

Arm Gave Back a Third in a Month Despite Beating on Revenue

Shares fell 10.16% over the past week and 33.8% over the past month, yet remain up 86.23% year to date. The 52-week range spans $100.02 to $452.70.

In fiscal Q1 2027, revenue of $1.289B rose 22.4% and beat the $1.267B consensus, while GAAP EPS of $0.25 missed the $0.40 estimate. Prior fiscal Q2 guidance called for $1.38 billion revenue and $0.47 non-GAAP EPS.

Why Bulls See $400 in Play

Our bull case reaches $407.95. Arm AGI CPU demand now tops $2 billion against a $1 billion supply-backed opportunity for fiscal 2027 and 2028. Data center royalties more than doubled again, and Neoverse shipments passed 1.5 billion cores.

Management sees the CPU market reaching $100 billion, reasoning “agentic workloads are essentially capacity constrained in terms of throughput by the number of CPUs you have.” Wall Street largely agrees: 29 analysts rate Arm a buy or strong buy versus two sells.

ARM analyst ratings

Margin Dilution and a 239x P/E Are the Risks

The bear case points to $182.04. Arm trades at 239 times trailing earnings, and first-generation AGI CPU gross margins were guided to the “high 30% range, maybe low 40s,” well below the 92.48% corporate gross margin.

Smartphone weakness reduced full-year royalty growth expectations to the high teens, and the litigation trial with Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) is expected in Q4 calendar 2026.

Share-based compensation of $343M hurt GAAP results, while non-GAAP operating margin reached about 41%. Operating cash flow rose 171.69%, so the spending is funding growth.

Arm Trades Far Above NVIDIA and Qualcomm

NVIDIA belongs here because its Arm-based Vera CPU powers next-generation AI systems. NVIDIA trades at 42 times earnings after revenue grew 105.85% to $96.221 billion, far cheaper relative to growth than Arm.

Qualcomm is an Arm licensee entering data center CPUs with the Arm-based Dragonfly C1000. It trades at 32 times earnings, though handset revenue fell 20%.

Company Trailing P/E Gross Margin
Arm 239x 92.48%
NVIDIA 42x 71.1%
Qualcomm 32x 55.4%

Arm’s margins justify a premium, but the peer gap explains why our 24/7 Wall St. price target sits well below the analyst consensus. Against peers, $221.48 looks reasonable.

Model Leans Constructive at $221.48

The 24/7 Wall St. price target of $221.48 carries a buy rating and 90% confidence. The key factor is CPU share in agentic data centers.

The rating strengthens if Arm turns AGI CPU demand into recognized revenue with margins trending toward 50%. It weakens if silicon dilution and smartphone weakness keep GAAP EPS missing estimates. After a one-month pullback of a third, the model target sits above the current price.

Arm Price Prediction 2026-2030

Here is where our model projects Arm could trade, assuming current growth trends hold.

Year 24/7 Wall St. Price Target
2026 $207.49
2027 $221.48
2028 $232.95
2029 $267.96
2030 $253.30

These projections assume Arm keeps executing on its data center strategy. AGI CPU adoption at scale could push results toward the bull path, while litigation or export controls could pull them lower.
