If you’re looking to double a $5,000 investment, the top altcoins are usually where investors turn, and XRP (CRYPTO:XRP), Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) and Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) are three of the biggest names among them.
ETH, XRP and SOL are all trading well below their peaks right now, which means they might be at their cheapest price if this is the bottom, and each coin has something going for it. XRP is waiting on a bill in Congress that would settle its legal status, Solana’s Alpenglow upgrade is due between August and October, and Ethereum has a record 34% of its supply locked in staking.
So which of XRP, Solana and Ethereum could double a $5,000 investment by the end of 2027?
Can XRP Turn $5,000 Into $10,000?

XRP trades at $1.09 today after dropping about 41% this year, and doubling a $5,000 investment means the XRP price reaches $2.18. The coin traded above that level in early January, when it rallied to $2.40, so $2.18 is a price XRP held seven months ago.
The CLARITY Act would write XRP’s status as a digital commodity into federal law, replacing the joint interpretive guidance the SEC and CFTC issued in March that any future administration could withdraw. Institutions have stayed on the sidelines partly because of that, since guidance can be withdrawn at any time and banks will not build around something that isn’t law, while permanent status would let them hold XRP without that risk.
However, the Senate is yet to start a debate on the bill. Cloture requires 60 votes, so at least seven Democrats have to back the bill in a 53-47 chamber, and Majority Leader John Thune has not filed that motion. The bill has a few working days before the Senate leaves for recess on August 7, so the timeline is tight.
The CLARITY Act still has about 17 months to pass before the end of 2027, and our own view has XRP pushing toward $5 if it does. That is well past the $2.18 price needed to double a $5,000 investment, so XRP can realistically double your money, but it all rests on the bill passing.
Can Solana Turn $5,000 Into $10,000?

Solana trades at $73.95 today, so doubling a $5,000 investment means the SOL price reaching $147.90. Solana traded above that level as recently as last year, and it peaked at $294 in January 2025 before losing 75% of its value.
Solana has pulled in roughly $552.6 million in net inflows this year, more than any other chain, with $4.9 billion locked in its protocols and $1.1 billion moving through its exchanges daily.
However, none of that has reached the SOL price, which is up just 2.0% over the past month. Solana’s fees never recovered after the memecoin trading that drove them collapsed in 2024, and investors price a chain on the revenue its activity produces rather than the volume it handles. Solana’s activity has held up while its revenue has not.
The Alpenglow upgrade could change that. It would cut transaction finality from 12.8 seconds to about 150 milliseconds, with validator registration opened last week ahead of a mainnet rollout due between August and October. Faster settlement would open Solana up to high-frequency trading and real-time applications that cannot run on it now, and that is the sort of activity that generates fees.
We think Solana will reach $100 to $250 by 2027. At $100 a $5,000 investment would be worth about $6,760 and fall short of doubling, while $250 would turn it into roughly $16,900. So, Solana can double a $5,000 investment if the Alpenglow upgrade triggers a rally.
Can Ethereum Turn $5,000 Into $10,000?

Ethereum has fallen more than 60% from the $4,946 it hit in August 2025, and at $1,917 today, a $5,000 investment doubles once the ETH price reaches $3,835. Ethereum last traded above $4,000 in September 2025.
Roughly 41 million ETH, or 34% of everything in circulation, is now locked in staking and earning yield instead of sitting on exchanges. That is a record, and it takes $77.7 billion of ether off the market, so any buying that arrives is chasing a smaller pool than before.
Robinhood has been supplying some of that buying since launching its own network on Ethereum on July 1. The chain now processes more than $800 million a day, mostly in memecoin trading, and every transaction on it needs ETH to pay the fee. Ethereum broke above $1,970 on July 27 as a result, a two-month high, on spot volume up 118% to over $9.2 billion.
A rally toward $3,835 and higher would most likely come from the Glamsterdam upgrade. The upgrade was targeted for June and has slipped, with no mainnet date locked and estimates now running from the third quarter into the fourth. It would raise the block gas limit from about 60 million to 200 million, cutting gas fees by roughly 78% and taking throughput toward 10,000 transactions per second.
For Ethereum to reach $4,000 again, the Glamsterdam upgrade has to launch and spark a rally and ETF flows have to stay positive. That’s what could make Ethereum double a $5,000 investment.
Which One Is Most Likely to Double Your $5,000?
The ETH price is up 22.3% over the past month while XRP gained 4.5% and Solana 2.0%, so Ethereum is the only one of the three where buying has already started. A record 34% of supply is locked away and Robinhood’s chain is pulling in fresh demand daily. However, the Glamsterdam upgrade still has no mainnet date set yet.
XRP would pay the most of the three if the CLARITY Act passes. The XRP price could reach $5 or higher if that happens, which turns a $5,000 investment into about $22,900. However, the Senate has not started debating the bill and it’s not certain if Democrats will vote in its favor.
Meanwhile, Solana needs the Alpenglow upgrade to bring in the activity that generates fees before the SOL price follows. Then again, all three coins still depend on the wider market sentiment turning. If crypto trades through 2027 the way it has traded this year, none of them might double the investment.
