Is XRP Dead? We Asked Claude AI After a Week That Tested the Ledger’s Cap, Its Governance and Its Biggest Treasury.

A decade-old bug, a governance fight, and a $443 million treasury listing hit XRP in a single week, and now Claude AI is putting hard probability numbers on whether this crypto survives the next 14 months.

Is XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) on its last legs? This question has resurfaced among investors after a tough week in early October 2026 that tested the XRP Ledger’s supply cap and governance, and hit the largest XRP corporate treasury in quick succession.

XRP is currently trading at $1.37, up 0.4% for the day, though it has declined 6.7% over the past week. This price puts it about 62.5% below its all-time high of $3.65 in July 2025, though some records indicate a peak of $3.84 in January 2018, a level XRP has yet to reach again.

A Supply Bug, a Bounty Dispute, and a Treasury Listing Put XRP to the Test

The most significant issue was a ledger bug that could have created 18.45 trillion XRP tokens, undermining the fixed supply investors rely on. A researcher privately reported the issue on September 22; Ripple resolved it by September 25 and disclosed the bug on October 9, with no evidence of exploitation.

Following this, a public argument arose over the $250,000 maximum bounty intended for reporting such flaws. Additionally, validators—independent servers that verify transactions on the XRP Ledger—debated the emergency patch since it bypassed the usual 80% amendment vote normally required for rule changes.

On October 12, Evernorth, the largest holder of XRP in corporate treasury, was listed on Nasdaq with 473 million XRP, valued at approximately $443 million less than when the agreement was signed. Meanwhile, XRP also formed new partnerships with a payments infrastructure company and a South Korean securities firm.

Claude AI sees the week’s events as a pass on the most critical test: the bug was reported confidentially, fixed within three days, and never exploited. In its analysis, Claude believes XRP hasn’t lost its foundation but rather its momentum. The greater threat is a gradual decline if stablecoins and other blockchains start to corner the payment market XRP was designed to serve.

Fund Flows Shape Claude’s $1.40 Year-End XRP Prediction

Routine fund flow data plays a crucial role in Claude’s outlook for the coming 12 months. While the bug, bounty dispute, and governance concerns influence developer and validator perceptions, they do not change supply or demand in the near term.

The XRP funds, exchange-traded products that hold XRP for brokerage investors, saw zero net flow in five of nine sessions in October, including three consecutive days. To date, these funds have amassed $1.8 billion but currently hold $1.56 billion. Claude views these zero-flow days as a pause in institutional demand that drove 2025 highs, and highlights the risk that current holders might sell during any price rebounds instead of buying more.

Claude suggests a year-end price range for XRP between $0.95 and $2.10, with $1.40 being the most probable price. Given XRP’s history of price volatility, typically fluctuating between 70% and 90% annually, Claude estimates a standard deviation move of around 35% to 40% over the last 11 weeks of 2026.

The upper end of the range has been adjusted upward because XRP tends to experience short squeezes—where traders with short positions buy back—along with potential fourth-quarter rallies. Despite this optimistic adjustment, Claude maintains that prevailing fund demand is stagnant, and Bitcoin’s current position at $83,290 isn’t providing XRP the support it enjoyed in 2025.

Why Claude Sees XRP Below $1 as More Likely Than a New High

Claude estimates there’s a 25% chance XRP could dip below $1 before June 30, 2027, representing a potential decline of about 27%. This drop could be triggered by a broader market sell-off, with Bitcoin falling below about $60,000; a shift from flat flows to consistent redemptions; and a significant sell-off by the listed treasury.

According to Claude, such a decline is plausible given XRP’s typical price fluctuations over the next eight and a half months, but it would likely require at least two of the three conditions to occur simultaneously.

Claude assigns a 15% chance that XRP will reach its record high of $3.65 by the end of 2027, implying a gain of around 166%. To achieve this, fund inflows would need to resume and grow significantly, Bitcoin would need to set new highs, and emerging partnerships would need to generate real on-chain volume.

Notably, XRP surged about 500% between November 2024 and January 2025, showing that significant price moves are certainly possible. Claude retains the 15% estimate since all three requirements would have to converge within about 14 months. This raises a question for investors who bought XRP at $3 in January 2018 and are now down around 54%: would they be willing to invest at $1.37, knowing it could drop another 30%?

So, Is XRP Dead?

Claude’s verdict is clear: no, XRP isn’t dead yet. It forecasts a 25% chance of XRP trading below $1 before mid-2027 and a 15% chance of reclaiming $3.65 by the end of 2027. While a drop below a dollar seems more likely than setting a new record, both outcomes suggest that the XRP Ledger remains operational. For XRP holders, the journey ahead remains uncertain, but hope persists amid the challenges.

Fund flows are the signal to watch. Steady redemptions with Bitcoin under $60,000 would trigger two of Claude’s sub-$1 conditions, while fresh inflows and a close above $2.10 by December 31 would make a new record feel less distant.
