Following an opening weekend with U.S. ticket sales of $147 million, “Furious 7” once again looks to have a comfortable lead in its second weekend of release. The film also rolled up $245 million overseas in its first weekend, not including China or Japan where the movie has yet to open.

The seventh movie in the franchise from Comcast Corp.’s (NASDAQ: CMCSA) Universal Studios took in $18.8 million in Friday ticket sales, a drop of 72% from the opening weekend, but still good enough to swamp animated feature “Home” from Twenty-First Century Fox Inc. (NASDAQ: FOXA), which posted Friday receipts of $5.6 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

The only new release scheduled for this weekend was “The Longest Ride,” a romance from a book by Nicholas Sparks (“The Notebook”) released by Fox on 3,366 screens. The film picked up $5.5 million in ticket sales on Friday.

Based on Friday’s receipts, “Furious 7” is pegged to haul in $60.2 million in domestic ticket sales for the weekend, pushing its domestic total for 10 days to $252 million. Hollywood Reporter expects the film to finish the weekend with more than $700 million in gross receipts from domestic and international sales.

Opening on Monday(!) is “Beyond the Mask,” a historical drama about a mercenary for the British East India Company, from Gathr Films. The company’s unique release system offers moviegoers a chance to reserve a ticket for a film at a local theater. Once enough tickets are reserved, the company schedules a screening. “Beyond the Mask” has sold nearly 60,000 tickets and will open on 327 screens on Monday, according the Gathr website.
