About Google

Alphabet Inc. is the holding company for Google and a collection of other businesses. It reports three segments: Google Services, Google Cloud and Other Bets.

Google Services covers ads, Android, Chrome, consumer devices, Google Maps, Google Play, Search and YouTube. It earns revenue mainly from advertising (Google Search & other, YouTube ads and Google Network). It also earns from consumer subscriptions such as YouTube TV, YouTube Music and Premium, NFL Sunday Ticket and Google One, from app and in-app purchases, and from consumer devices.

Google Cloud sells infrastructure and platform services, applications and other enterprise products. Its revenue comes from consumption-based fees and subscriptions for Google Cloud Platform and Google Workspace, and increasingly from product sales of its TPU AI accelerator systems. Demand for enterprise AI infrastructure and AI solutions is now its primary growth engine.

Other Bets generates revenue mainly from autonomous transportation services and internet services.

Alphabet also funds shared AI research centrally, including its Gemini family of models and the Gemini app. It is investing heavily in technical infrastructure and funds part of that build-out through debt, at-the-market equity issuance and mandatory convertible preferred stock, while paying quarterly common dividends. Two blue chips are opening at record-setting earnings gaps, with 10.93% the line that would make Caterpillar's drop the worst in its history.

Along with Alphabet $GOOGL set for its biggest gap down on earnings in history, Caterpillar $CAT is set to have its biggest gap down on earnings since July 2002. If it opens down more than 10.93%, it will be its biggest ever. Some historic drops for big blue chips this morning. https://t.co/PMpBoUlaMj

Google is keeping the AI trade alive - CAPEX 2027 increases significantly from 2026

Watching reddit continually crash out over AI only for companies to invest more heavily into it coupled with market hitting several new highs the past couples years has been peak entertainment.

Alphabet guided 2026 capex to $195 billion to $205 billion and said 2027 goes higher, which keeps the AI buildout trade funded for another year. The debate in the thread is whether that spending ever earns its return, or just keeps the chip suppliers paid.

Google Cloud revenue doubled, up 103% year over year on AI infrastructure and TPU sales, which is what matters for investors here. The EPS miss came from an $8.7 billion loss on equity securities, and quarterly capex of $51.4 billion pushed free cash flow negative. Keep an eye on the stock as the call gets underway.
