SoFi Is Now Down 44% in 2026: Did SOFI Stock Just Find a Bottom?

SoFi Technologies has cratered while rival fintechs barely flinched, and a bold new crypto-linked product may be either the catalyst that stops the bleeding or a distraction from deeper trouble heading into a critical earnings report.

A brutal 2026 has made SoFi Technologies (NASDAQ:SOFI | SOFI Price Prediction) the deepest laggard among major consumer fintech names, and a new crypto-linked product launch is now testing whether sellers have finally run out of momentum. SoFi shares have fallen 44% year to date (YTD) to $14.77. That decline marks a severe reset for a company that pitches itself as a one-stop digital bank, and it puts the question of a bottom directly on the table.

Fintech as a sector has held up far better, and large-cap stocks are higher. The ARK Blockchain & Fintech Innovation ETF (CBOE:ARKF) is down 5% YTD. At the index level, the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEARCA:SPY) is up 12% YTD.

SoFi vs. Fintech Peers

SoFi launched SoFi Earn, a tokenized bank deposit that pays a variable yield, on October 22. Holders can swap it one for one into SoFiUSD, the company’s own stablecoin, which links SoFi’s regulated bank to its digital asset business. Chief Executive Officer Anthony Noto stated that too much money in the digital asset ecosystem is sitting idle, and SoFi Earn is designed to put that cash to work inside a bank wrapper.

Meanwhile, Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ:HOOD) stock is down 15% YTD to $96, a far shallower slide than SoFi’s. Robinhood runs a trading and investing platform, while SoFi pairs its app with a bank that finances loans through deposits, and since both court retail customers through mobile apps, the YTD gap between them is hard to ignore.

Affirm Holdings (NASDAQ:AFRM) stock is down 3% YTD to $72.26, the smallest decline in the group and a fraction of SoFi’s loss. As a provider of buy now, pay later loans at checkout, Affirm is the closest match to SoFi’s consumer lending franchise, and that overlap makes the gap harder to dismiss, because shares of a consumer credit specialist are holding up while SoFi stock has been marked down hard.

The Chatter Surrounding SoFi

The ARKF fund’s portfolio highlights the contrast further. Its most recently disclosed holdings include both SoFi and Robinhood, with a heavier weighting in Robinhood, yet the fund’s YTD loss remains a small fraction of SoFi’s. Such selectivity suggests the market has been sorting fintech names one by one, severe SoFi while saving the broader basket.

On Reddit, chatter around SoFi has been neutral and light. One top WallStreetBets post asked simply, “When does this game end?” Frustration like that fits a stock that has trailed the SPDR ETF fund by a wide margin YTD, and SoFi now needs a catalyst strong enough to shift the mood.

Can SoFi’s Third-Quarter Report Mark a Bottom?

Hopes for a bottom rest on SoFi’s product pipeline, with SoFi Earn opening a new channel to pull deposits from the digital asset market into its bank. Such a wide YTD gap against Robinhood and Affirm also means any upside surprise would land on a stock already priced for disappointment. SoFi’s third-quarter 2026 results, due soon, may show whether its lending and deposit growth can turn sentiment after a year of persistent selling.

SOFI price scenario

Until then, SoFi stock could swing sharply in either direction once fresh numbers arrive. Any mix of strong deposit growth and solid lending numbers from SoFi could revive the bottom argument, while a disappointing report could extend SoFi stock’s drawdown behind Robinhood and Affirm. Traders may prefer to keep their exposure smaller until SoFi’s third-quarter report arrives.
