A Furious Month for META Shares
Meta has staged one of the sharpest rallies among mega-cap tech names. The stock is up 36.86% over the past month and 13.07% in the past week, pushing year-to-date gains to 14.21%. Shares sit just 2% below the 52-week high of $767.99.
The Q2 2026 earnings report on July 29, 2026 showed revenue of $60.8 billion rose 28% year over year, beating consensus, but diluted EPS of $6.18 missed the $7.22 estimate after $2.4 billion in legal charges and $1.2 billion in severance.
Capex reached $31.1 billion, and free cash flow fell to $784 million. Full-year 2026 capex is guided to $130 billion to $145 billion. The market has concluded that ad revenue growth and AI monetization justify the spend.
Why Bulls See a Breakout Ahead
The bull case centers on AI-driven ad monetization. Zuckerberg noted Meta’s GEM model produced an 8.3% increase in ad clicks on Facebook and a 15.7% uplift in conversions. Advantage Plus reached a $75 billion annual revenue run rate, and over 1 million businesses use Meta business agents weekly.
Family DAP hit 3.60 billion. New revenue streams include API access, subscriptions, and compute rental, with Zuckerberg noting Meta receives “offers at a meaningful premium” for compute capacity. Our bull-case scenario points to $879.67, roughly 18.1% upside.
What Could Go Wrong
The bear case rests on capex indigestion and legal overhang. Free cash flow fell 91.31% in Q2, operating margin compressed from 43% to 31%, and full-year 2026 expenses were raised to $165 billion to $169 billion.
Youth-related U.S. litigation and EU scrutiny of Less Personalized Ads add tail risk. Excluding legal and severance charges, Meta said Q2 operating income would have risen 9% year-over-year. Our bear-case scenario pins META at $729.93.
How META Compares to Alphabet and Pinterest
Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is the natural comparison as the other dominant AI-plus-advertising franchise. GOOGL trades at a trailing P/E of 16, well below META’s 28. Google Cloud grew 82% last quarter, and Alphabet is guiding to $175 billion to $185 billion in 2026 capex. META’s implied forward multiple of 23 at our target looks defensible given faster ad growth.
Pinterest (NYSE:PINS) offers a smaller-scale ad-tech contrast. PINS grew Q2 revenue 18.17% to $1.18 billion with 640 million MAUs. Meta’s 28% growth on a base 50 times larger is more impressive. The peer set makes our $842 target reasonable.
Our Take on META
The 24/7 Wall St. price target of $842.43 with 90% confidence anchors a buy. AI is measurably lifting ad conversions today while creating optionality on agents, APIs, and compute.
The setup looks constructive if capex discipline holds and Q3 revenue lands in the $61 billion to $64 billion guide. The thesis weakens if 2027 capex guidance shocks higher or ad growth decelerates below 20%.
