Costco Same-Store Sales Up 5% in December

Proving once again that it is the champion of big-box retail, Costco Wholesale Corp. (NASDAQ: COST) announced U.S. same-store sales in the important month of December rose 5%. Demonstrating that discounting did not batter its revenue, that figure rose 5% as well to $12.12 million.

Costco’s success has far exceeded that of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NASDAQ: WMT) and Target Corp. (NYSE: TGT). Many observers believe this is become Costco is aimed as customers with higher net income, which might give it a better yield per customer.

For the eighteen weeks ended January 4, 2015, the company reported net sales of $40.85 billion, an increase of 7% from $38.33 billion during the similar period last year.
