Apple Drops Market Share in China

New data from research firm Gartner shows that Apple’s market share in China has dropped from 10.4% in the nation in the third quarter to 7.5% in the fourth. That is an extraordinary loss for the company which is considered the premier smartphone firm in the world.

Apple is under siege by its largest competitor–Samsung. Local smartphone markers like ZTE have also increased share. Whether this is because the local government and carriers favor local smartphone companies is hard to tell. No matter what the reason, China is critical to Apple’s growth, and that growth is in trouble
