ADP numbers may have shown an addition of 216,000 jobs to private payrolls last month. Positive news from ADP usually means the the government figures for joblessness will be good. The consensus of economists is that there was a jobs gain of 200,000 in February, although weekly jobless claims were up 18,000 to 362,000
Gallup keeps it own survey of jobs and its measure shows trouble in the job market last month.
The research firm reports that
U.S. unemployment, as measured by Gallup without seasonal adjustment, increased to 9.1% in February from 8.6% in January and 8.5% in December. Underemployment increased to 19.1% from 18.7% the prior month.
If the numbers are even directionally correct, federal figures will show an unexpected loss of jobs, which would almost certainly cause a market sell-off
