Valeant Returns in Thursday's 52-Week Low Club

June 23, 2016: Here are four stocks trading with relatively heavy volume among 18 equities making new 52-week lows in Thursday’s session. NYSE advancers led decliners by 4 to 1 and Nasdaq advancers led decliners by a similar margin.

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. (NYSE: VRX) posted a new 52-week low on Thursday. Shares traded at a low of $21.40, down about 1.1%, after closing at $21.64 on Wednesday. The stock’s 52-week high is $263.81. Volume was less than half the daily average of around 33 million shares. The company’s rating was cut from Overweight to Neutral at J.P. Morgan this morning. The stock recovered by mid-morning however, and is headed for a 2% gain at the closing bell.

Bed, Bath & Beyond Inc. (NASDAQ: BBBY) dropped about 4.5% on Thursday to post a new 52-week low of $41.25 against a 52-week high of $71.20. Volume reached more than 5 times the daily average of around 2.2 million. The stock closed at $43.18 on Wednesday night. The home goods store missed profit and revenue estimates on Wednesday afternoon and shares were pummelled. But there’s no stopping buyers today, and shares look headed to close up around 1%.

JetBlue Airways Corp. (NASDAQ: JBLU) dropped about 1.6% on Thursday to post a new 52-week low of $15.94 against a 52-week high of $27.36. Volume was about 20% below the daily average of around 6.2 million. The stock closed at $16.20 on Wednesday night. The airline had no specific news Thursday, but worries over the airline sector generally are still piled up.

Alaska Air Group Inc. (NYSE: ALK) fell by about 1.8% on Thursday to post a new 52-week low of $58.74 against a high of $87.17. The stock closed at $59.68 on Wednesday night. Volume reached about 1.4 million shares,about 30% below the stock’s daily average of around 2 million. Another airline stock with no specific news but the bad luck to be in the wrong sector on Thursday.
