Americans Will Spend $7.1 Billion on July 4th Celebrations

The National Retail Federation (NRF) expects the 219 million Americans who will celebrate the 4th of July holiday weekend to spend a total of $7.1 billion. That is up from $6.8 billion in 2016.

The average amount spent on the celebrations will be $73.42, which primarily includes cookouts, travel, fireworks and parade attendance. The NRF found that 11.6% of those surveyed will not celebrate at all.

The survey found that 65 percent of consumers already own a U.S. flag, 53 percent patriotic-themed apparel such as T-shirts, bathing suits or shoes, and 40 percent own patriotic decorations. Nonetheless, 28 percent plan on purchasing more patriotic items.
