The 4 Stocks That Weighed on the DJIA Wednesday

October 21, 2015: Markets opened higher on Wednesday on the trail of gains in both Japan and Europe. Shanghai closed down and the dollar index was lower as well. Crude oil for December delivery settled at $45.20, down 2.4% following a massive build in inventories and gold settled lower by 0.9% at $1,167.10. Equities were headed for a lower close shortly before the closing bell as the DJIA traded down 0.34% for the day, the S&P 500 traded down 0.63%, and the Nasdaq Composite traded down 0.87%.

The DJIA stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close Wednesday was The Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE: GS) which traded down 2.73% at $180.45. The stock’s 52-week range is $167.49 to $218.77. Trading volume was more than 20% lower than the daily average of around 3.1 million. The company’s request to dismiss a claim related to Tibco sale was rejected by the court.

UnitedHealth Group Inc. (NYSE: UNH) traded down 1.85% at $118.19. The stock’s 52-week range is $88.85 to $126.21. Trading volume was about 10% above the daily average of around 4.3 million. The company had no specific news today.

Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) traded down 1.46% at $33.50. The stock’s 52-week range is $28.00 to $36.46. Trading volume was up about 10% compared with the daily average of around 26 million. The stock hit a headwind on the short-seller attack today on Valeant.

McDonald’s Corp. (NYSE: MCD) traded down 1.4% at $102.38. The stock’s 52-week range is $87.50 to $105.20. Trading volume was about 10% above the daily average of around 6.2 million. The fast-food giant reports third-quarter earnings tomorrow.

Of the Dow 30 stocks 18 are set to close lower today and 12 are on track to close higher.
